Technology Education- How It All Began

Technology education began as a concept in Britain just before the 90’s. The objective was to introduce new means of technology into the classroom. This would first of all help the younger generations get themselves acquainted with modern technology and secondly it would increase their exposure and enhance the learning experience.

With the passage of time the concept of technology education grew into a formal field of study. Initially courses in technology were introduced in the form of skill and craft workshops. These would focus on manual training and industrial arts. Workers from different professional fields could enroll themselves in these work shops and enhance their skill set. Today there are specific designated technology colleges which offer degrees in this particular field of study.

This field of study now encompasses many facets of modern science and technology. Engineering to build actual solutions to technological problems is also a prominent part of this study. The eventual aim is to trigger the development of full scale systems that will work to better the future. Future technology like human cloning, weaponry development and virtual reality are some of the elements of technology education.

What started off as a modest attempt to educate students regarding modern technology has now become a very important field of study that will have major implications on future technology. Leading countries around the world are working to develop state of the art technology colleges that will allow students to enroll and pursue degree programs in technology.
